Tampa Liposuction Procedures

liposuctionNo matter how much you exercise, there are some parts of your body that sometimes refuse to tone up. When hours of sit-ups become futile, the Bayside Center for Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery recommends liposuction. Whether you’re a woman in Trinity, FL, who wants liposuction to regain the body she had before giving birth, or you’re a man in Tarpon Springs who can’t get rid of his love handles, our board certified surgeon Dr. John Roach can help.

The liposuction procedure was developed to improve the shape of your body and eliminate excess fat from facial and body areas. It is important to understand that liposuction is not an alternative to dieting; instead, it should be viewed as a method to remove the unwanted fat that can’t be eliminated with dieting and exercise.

What to expect during and after your liposuction procedure

Dr. Roach will begin your plastic surgery by creating several tiny incisions where you wish to lose fat. Then he inserts a straw-like tube called a cannula to remove the excess fat from that desired body part. There are several liposuction methods used today, and Dr. Roach will decide which procedure is best for your needs. One of these liposuction, or body contouring, methods is called the Tumescent Liposuction Technique which involves injecting the treatment areas with a liquid solution—typically consisting of saline, lidocaine, and epinephrine—before the surgery begins. This solution helps to constrict blood vessels so the excess fat is easier to remove.

Another liposuction method is the Ultrasonic Assisted Lipoplasty (UAL). This procedure uses ultrasound energy to liquefy the excess fat you want removed from your body. UAL surgery is usually beneficial when there is a large amount of fat that needs to be eliminated via cannula.

After your liposuction procedure, you may experience some bruising, swelling, and soreness. These symptoms may last up to 10 days. Dr. Roach may encourage you to wear a special compression garment for the first two to four weeks of your liposuction recovery process. Although you will immediately see the difference in your appearance after your surgery, it will take roughly six months for all the swelling to vanish. Liposuction can also be used during a neck lift, to help eliminate excess fat from the neck and under the chin.
