Breast Lift Procedure for Tampa

breast-liftAccording to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, it is estimated that there were approximately 93,000 breast lift procedures performed in 2005. Some of those women could’ve been in Tampa, Trinity, Lutz, Carrollwood, Odessa, Palm Harbor, or any other part of Florida, longing to regain the once perky breasts they had in their youth.

Breast lift operations, though, are not only for older women. Young women who have been pregnant, nursed their child, lost weight, or had a change in hormones can also have breasts that lose their volume, begin to sag, and lose their shape. Luckily a breast lift procedure can help. At the Bayside Center for Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, our plastic surgeon Dr. John Roach expertly performs breast lifts to help raise droopy, saggy, and poorly shaped breasts.

What to expect during your breast lift procedure
Your breast lift operation basically involves removing the excess skin around the breast to improve the shape, position, and contour of your breasts. Dr. Roach will work diligently to remove the skin while also minimizing the amount of possible scar formation that comes with the removal of excess skin. There are a couple of techniques that can be used to minimize scaring.

  • Doughnut technique—with this procedure the circle of skin that surrounds the nipple-areolar complex is removed therefore leaving the nipple intact.
  • Tailor-tack technique—this gives the plastic surgeon a glimpse of what the lift will look like before any of the excess skin is eliminated. Dr. Roach will perform this method by folding the breast and using temporary sutures to hold the ideal shape. Your plastic surgeon will remove the sutures and only the folded excess skin is removed.

After your surgery you may experience some bruising, soreness, and swelling. You will most likely have to wear bandages and a surgical bra for a few days, and after these are removed Dr. Roach may suggest you wear a sports bra until your swelling has decreased. You can typically return to normal activities within a week of the plastic surgery, but you are advised to refrain from heavy lifting or straining. Possible complications from the surgery include infections, excessive bleeding, and scarring.
