The Liposuction Procedure

During the liposuction procedure, Dr. Roach at Bayside Center for Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery will first make multiple, very small incisions at the unwanted fat areas. Through the incisions, a small tube (cannula) is inserted to remove the excess fat.

There are a variety of liposuction methods that can be used to create your ideal beach body. Tumescent liposuction is one technique, and it involves injecting a solution of saline, lidocaine, and epinephrine into the treatment area before the incisions are made. This solution constricts blood vessels to facilitate the removal of fat. 

Recovery

After the liposuction procedure, we know that you’ll be excited to hit the beach, but it will take some time to fully recover from the procedure. Bruising, swelling, and soreness may persist for up to 10 days following liposuction, and a compression garment may need to be worn for the first 2 to 4 weeks after the procedure. It may take around 6 months for all of the swelling from liposuction to disappear. With that in mind, improvement to the treatment area will be visible immediately after liposuction and will continue to get better over the recovery period.
